Best Anime Movies Ever

Spirited Away Product ImageSpirited Away

This is easily the greatest anime film of all time. You follow Chihiro as she matures and grows after suddenly finding herself in a new and mystical world. She has to prove herself again and again with the hopes of being reunited with her parents. Such powerful emotions come to play in this, and the movie is so much like my dreams that it was almost creepy. Highly recommend this great film.

I've seen Spirited Away a few times and I think that it is overrated. The plot seems a little week at spots and the love story isn't very powerful. It did not leave such a mark as a few other animes, such as Princess Mononoke, did for me, but that is just my opinion. Many prefer the story of Spirited Away. I personally hate the ending... It seems anti-climactic to me. It has just been so hugely advertised and distributed in America that other anime films don't even stand a chance.

I like this movie since the first time I found it in Sony...this and some other animes are the reason that I love to draw more than when I was younger. The truth is, all Miyazaki movies are the best, and what appeals to me is that everything that he has made is around a world were the good is those that take care of mother earth and the bad ones well those ones never win haha...I wish there would be a "to be continue" on some of his movies but is part of its charms and well there it is, my opinion. n.n

At first, I feel not watching this anime until Disney have televise it. It's a masterpiece full of symbolism and great character development for our mc. Every scene is fully detailed or animated which the unexpected for an anime which have been created hand drawn. that's real dedication right there by the creator. No anime movies comes close in terms of storyline, details, character progression and hard work to this one.

Your Name

Definitely the Best Anime movie out there... Makoto shinkai himself won't be able to defeat the success he got from this movie.

I literally just watched this movie like, two years after it came out, and it was amazing. It has a way of really making you change the way that you think. I love this movie even though it's romance and I usually hate romances, but this was different. I think that this should actually be number 2, though. There's this other amazing anime movie called "The Shape of Voice," and if it was an option to vote for it, I would definitely vote that movie as Number One instead of this one. You should definitely watch the Shape of Voice if you time! But, with the choices here, Your Name (Kimi no Na wa) is definitely the best. But, to sum it up, this movie is simply breathtaking and kind of funny at the same time. It literally made me cry!

I highly recommend you watch this. I watched both Spirited Away and Your Name but Your Name takes 1st place. Your Name intrigues you more in the movie and the end just leaves you want more to see what happens. Then its also like a interactive detective movie as you try to piece the events in the movie as it happens in the past and future. Also people love this movie so much the directors consider making another movie. In the end this takes the cake.

Unpopular opinion: I think this movie is better than spirited away. This movie is so good, and so moving, this should be at least number two. The animation is gorgeous, the characters are smart and funny and lovable, the story is incredibly interesting and unique, and the way everything builds bigger and bigger is outstanding.
I can't recommend this movie enough. This was definitely my favorite movie of 2016, and one of my favorites of all time

Princess Mononoke

I love this film. I consider it the greatest anime movie ever. It has an awesome adventure, an extremely romantic (but in no way sappy) love story, a war between three factions, and an enormous battle. It has everything. I love this film and I have now seen it around 30 times. It gets to me every time. I fall in love with the characters again every time I see it, I experience the story as if I have never heard it (though I have memorized the script and the scenes), and get depressed for a few days every time I see it (every few months) thinking about it. I have never seen another movie so powerful. Movies are supposed to move you in some profound way, and this film definitely does so. I think that this deserves top spot. I've seen Spirited Away a few times and I think that it is overrated. Many people who voted for it have probably never seen Princess Mononoke. Personally,

Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece. It is more than a good anime film, but one of the greatest films ever made. The animation is beautiful and the characters you will never forget.

I know you're thinking this:

But this movie should be number one.

AND THIS IS A MIYAZAKI FILM!

Who gives a crap? This movie is one of his best, but is still not for families, which is his usual path. It's VERY bloody, with violence and nudity. THAT is why it is number 8.

Pretty good film. Not amazing, but definitely top three material on a list like this.

Akira

Akira started the Anime craze in America. In the late 80's early 90's you could only get this Anime from infomercials and 1-800 #'s. First introduces as this new cutting edge style of Animation fresh from Japan and it was not marketed to children but to Adults. That is the problem with a pole like this being a matter of opinion and open to children not old enough to remember where it really began. Take it from me, if you have not Seen Akira at least once, you have no room to claim any expertise in Anime or it becoming relevant outside of Japan. However, here I will also note that although Akira started the Anime craze in a America, it was by no means the first Anime nor the First Anime to come out in America. Both of those distinctions actually go to AstroBoy. - Mystsofvoid

In my opinion, is the greatest anime of all time. The animation is incredible, and completely hand drawn. It is filled with action, adventure (and quite frankly, a hell of a lot of language), and one scene that has always grossed me out: The scene where Tetsuo transforms into the blob thing. Did I mention that this movie ALSO started the anime fandom (Otaku) in America? You can't become an anime fan until you watch Akira.

No film has a sense of greatness and scope like Akira does. IT GETS BETTER WITH EACH VIEWING.

For a 1988 film, it took 7 animation companies and 10 years to make the visuals...honestly, I have never seen any movie come close to the smoothness of Akira. Most of it is animated at 24fps.

Akira was the first movie to pre-record the voices of the actors, and then lip-sync the mouths of the characters (which is why you should never watch Akira with dub). All the characters keep moving all the time on screen, and there is never a dull moment.

Also, this was many people's first step into the world of anime, and it showed everyone that cartoons could be enjoyed by adults too.

People complain about it's confusing plot...they don't realise that Akira was never aiming to deliver a good story.

Akira is a visual treat for the eyes, not to mention the Dolby Atmos audio in which it was recorded sounds amazing.

Do yourself a favour and go check out Akira 720p ...more

An Anime film like no other. Stunning. The motorcycle battles are amongst the most exciting action sequences ever created. My only complaint is with the English voice acting.

Grave of the Fireflies

I just remembered that I have already watched this movie a long time ago.
And it was really really sad and heartbreaking it made me burst into tears even tough I am a who doesn't cry and refrain myself from crying ( esprcially in front of other people.)
the movie is GREAT... Must watch this movie guys...

The first and only anime movie that has felt so surreal and heartbreaking that it's made me use up all the tissue boxes. Sorry mum.

It's the most ambitious, emotional, and quite frankly best film that I've ever seen. Watch it and be happy with what you have.

A must watch. The rice ball scene literally broke my heart. This is the best anime movie I've ever seen.
